Summary:
I would not own anything but a stihl. I own the 18" blades. I think the 24" would be too awkward.

Strengths:
This is an awesome trimmers. I own 4 of them!

Weaknesses:
Gets a little heavy if using for over an hour without a break.

Summary:
Great Product!

Strengths:
I have just recently purchased the Stihl HS45 with the 24" blades and actually used it for the first time yesterday. It performed very well. The engine is very strong. I have used Stihl products for almost 20 years (I also have a Stihl string trimmer and a backpack blower). I wouldn't expect anything less from a Stihl product!

Weaknesses:
None discovered so far.

Summary:
I own all Stihl equipment for the past 4 years to run my little landscaping company. I love the equipement.

Strengths:
They have been great for 4 years without fail!

Weaknesses:
This year when I went to use them the they failed on me. Took it to a Stihl dealer and said he had to rebuild the carbourator. He said the 87 gas is bad and to move to the 89 the high ocatane. My dealer said they they have been seeing it alot with these type of equipement.

Summary:
unreliable, causes delays in jobs.

Strengths:
I have an HS 45 that cuts like a dream in heavy brush and vines. Very fast cutting.

Weaknesses:
Stihl knew what they were doing to market the HS 45 with "one year limited warranty." Carburetor problems causes failures frequently. After about 6 hours operation total, the equipment will start but will not throttle up to operating speed. This happens especially if the equipment is not used for a couple of days, regardless whether they are stored with or without fuel in the tank. This always requires a $70.00 + repair and the phenomonen simply repeats. I have been told it was the fuel containing 10% alcohol causing the proble. I do not agree with this theory because I have Blowers and chainsaws from two other manufacturers that uses the same fuel daily without this problem.

Summary:
Great product. If they didn't make it to where you had to change out the gaskets and diaphram in the carb every year or two... they wouldn't be making any money. Half of the time the carb just needs to be cleaned. Watch a video online and learn how to do it. It's easier than you think.

Strengths:
It is the best hedge trimmer on the market minus the carb.

Weaknesses:
the carb. You can pay $70-$100 to have them put a new carb kit in it. Or you can buy one for $12 and do it yourself. (easy)

Summary:
Stihl has failed us, they used to have a good product but no longer. What good is their equipment if you can't rely on it. Blaming it on the gas is ridiculous and ethanol gas has for quite a while, the problem is poor engineering and a lack of customer support to fix an obviously defective product. All 3 of my machines have broken down repeatedly. if they can recall a gas cap what about this poor carb. DO NOT BUY A STIHL UNLESS YOU DON"T WANT TO WORK>

Strengths:
Over rated, expensive, capitalizing and a once good name

Weaknesses:
They just don't last. who wants constant carb problems - I would not buy another and I don't recommend them.

Summary:
Love It. Make sure to read the owners manual and break it in properly. The fist 3 tanks are for break in period.

Strengths:
Plenty of power, tricky to start, Have to lock out blades and use 93 octane fuel and starts fairly easy. Can trim heavy hedge around the perimiter of my lot. It is 8 feet tall and can get very thick but the hs45 can take it with no problem. I kind of wish I had gotten the 18" the 24" is a little awkward to handle. But I love it.

Weaknesses:
Takes 89 octane or higher. Break in peried of 3 tanks and no load and no high reves is inconvenient. But I don't have and starting problems others talk about.
