not a real bad saw for the money if you get a good one.

Strengths:
The saw wasn't very expensive but, now I know why. It has about 15 minutes total time.

Weaknesses:
The spring that holds the plastic line down into the oil is pushing it up. It ruined the chain and the bar.

So far, so good. Can't beat the price. It will work great for everything I will ever need it for.

Strengths:
Great value. I got a factory reconditioned model for $70 from a local store. Took it home, put it together and it started right up. Runs great.

Weaknesses:
I have read many reviews saying that it has problems starting, idling, among other things. I am not sure that these problems aren't user caused as I have had no problems. I am wondering if some people try to use straight gas without mixing the oil in. I don't think it would run too good if they did this. This is just an example of something that someone could have done and then say it is a bad chainsaw. (I don't know of anyone who has done this personally)

Summary:
I have two 3314's. Bought first one from Sears for $120 because my Craftsman IncrediPull never ran and I needed a back up. Then my wife found a 4620 for $129 at a Home Depot closeout and two weeks ago I bought another 3314 at Walmart for $50 (display model). These Poulans are great saws for the money. The 3314s seem well made. The 4620 feels a little cheap. Probably too much saw to be made entirely of plastic.

Strengths:
Runs good, starts well, reliable, light weight makes it great for limb trimming

Weaknesses:
I have not found a problem with this little saw.

Threw it in the garbage and considered the $109 as stupid tax for trying to go for a less expensive model. The price point is what got me. Great price but I now have nothing to show for it.

Strengths:
Seemed like a good value for the price.

Weaknesses:
One successful use in the fall, I broke it out the next spring and the starter cord would not recoil and apparently never will. The saw came out of the box with the chain installed backwards. Receipt was long gone by the time this happened. I spoke to an employee at my local Lowes who informed me their rep said Poulan products are junk and he recommended a Husqvarna at 2x the price.

Summary:
If used for what it's purpose is, and if the owner can figure out how to read, This is a fair price for a home utility machine. Mine just keeps on ticking, and always starts on the 2nd pull. ALWAYS! Keep the saw CLEAN, the blade sharp and use only quality gas in the proper gas oil mixture! Remember, the customer is always right..... If he reads the manual first! and no, I don't work for Pulaan.

Strengths:
I haven't had a problem in the almost one year I have owned it. Remember, it is what it is.... an inexpensive homeowner saw. This also implies that you should really read the manual and perform ALL scheduled cleaning and maintenance. Never, Never, Never leave 2 cycle oil in an inexpensive chainsaw more than a few days. This goes even for Stihl! AND most of all DO NOT use gasohol in these machines. Only Shell, Sunoco, Marathon... No Speedway, BP or other non-pure gasoline. Those alcohol/gasolines are fine for 4 stroke engines but NOT small 2 strokers. The reason your chord pull starts are breaking is probably because you are using gas which has been sitting in the machine for some time! You are needlessly pulling it way too much! When you are done with it, empty the gas and run the gas out of the carb until the engine stops on its own, leaving NO gas mix in the carburetor. ALSO, make SURE you are using the correct mix of oil and gas. Small engines are sensitive to this. Most of the problems I am seeing here are from people not doing what the manual tells them to do!

Weaknesses:
Plastic housing worries me a little, cheap chain supplied... Owner should ASAP change the chain to Carbide tips and maintain the sharpness. Do not force a dull blade through wood! Do not let the blade saw into soil or dirt or metal objects buried in the wood! Not even a carbide blade will last under those conditions. Dull blades are the kind of thing that cause severe injuries. I would not cut more than a 12" log with this saw.

Strengths:
Good saw for the money. Keep in mind this saw is NOT made to cut your yearly fierwood supply, it is for tree trimming and occasional use. I think most the starting issues are from people who don't read instructions, have wrong mixture or leave gas in unit for a long time. I am not saying a stihl is not a better saw, you just can't buy a new stihl for $99. Use it as intended and you will be OK.

I still agree with most of the weaknesses shared by others, but, in good conscience I must show my face and admit utter stupidity: I had no idea it was completely out of gas. In my defence, I agree with that guy who said the gas consumtion is way too quick on this model. Which explains why I may have so stubbornly thought "it can't be THAT!" Well, it was. SO, bottom line: it's not a bad little workhorse, but it is VERY temperamental. And I've only got it to work 3 times since I purchased it, so I don't want to write any more reviews one way or another...

Summary:
I've never had real problems starting this unit (which was purchased new). I hadn't noticed that ethanol gas is a no-no, and was running it with 10% before, which I assume lead to the random cut-outs I experienced. It was never hard to restart, however. Reading through other comments, it seems that if you're not willing to read the manual and perhaps (a) follow all directions and (b) do a little service on the machine, then you probably shouldn't own ANY gas powered machines. Stick to the electric ones - they are more than adequate for the weekend warrior and will hardly ever complain. As for mine, it always starts up with just a few pulls, and after giving it time to warm up (I bet that this step is *routinely* skipped by all those who complain), I give it a bit of gas and then go to work. I just finished bucking two 26" maples with this mighty mini with no problems. It cut wonderfully, even on plunge-cuts. Tips for people with problems : - Use ethanol free gas with the correct 2-cycle oil (40:1 mix) & don't forget you have to shake the gas can every time you add gas! Otherwise, it separates, and you won't be adding the correct mixture. - Always let the saw idle for at least 30 seconds when starting from cold before touching the throttle. It will sound awful and puff smoke a bit, but will return to a nice idle once you give it the gas. (If not, look in the user's manual for how to set the idle-t). - Remember that gas powered tools require service, and 2-cycle engines are more temperamental than 4-cycle. If you're not willing to do this, DON'T BUY THEM. - You might have a legitimate manufacturer's defect, as these saws are the lowest line from Husqvarna (who also makes Poulan Pro, Weed Eater, McCoullough, and many of the Craftsman saws), and as such, generally won't be made to the same tolerances as the pricier models. The saws DO work, however, and work well. If the saw really won't work and you did everything right, make sure you get the manufacturer to cover it!

Strengths:
Cheap, short bar is nice for mobility, low-end line of a very reputable company (Husqvarna. Yes, that's right.) Good power and cutting speed.

Weaknesses:
There are some... It's heavy for its size, it speeds through oil and gas, and (in my case) needed slight idle adjustment to run properly.

Strengths:
None.....Never could get it to run but for about 10 seconds. Kept trying as per instructions but could never get it to run again. Took it back to Lowes the same day I purchased it. I have owned several brands of chain saws in my long life, and am not a rookie with chain saws.... but this saw is just a 20 lb. paperweight/boat anchor as far as I can tell.

Summary:
I did not have the starting issues that everyone else seems to encounter. However, I tend to use some sta-bil or seafoam in my fuel/oil mix (if it matters), and have a feel for using the choke. Also, I get the impression that some of the carbs are not well adjusted from the factory, leading to some of the aforementioned issues. I modified my muffler (removed the baffle, pulled the spark screen, and enlarged the openings) and adjusted the carb a little on the high end. The saw starts well, runs well, and is serviceable. If you're not a person who likes to tweak their power equipment and prefers something with more quality and performance, I'd probably pay more for a different saw (Husqvarna/Stihl).

Strengths:
Inexpensive. Bars and chains easy to find at local hardware stores. Decent saw for light cutting. If properly maintained and adjusted, it will work as intended.

Weaknesses:
Too much plastic in the wrong places. For example, the chain tightening system. The carb adjustment screws require a specialized tool that you will likely have to purchase on-line (unless you dremel a slot in them like I did to be able to use a straight-slot screwdriver). The saw does not have a tremendous amount of power right from the box, and will easily bog as your chain starts to dull. I did have an issue with the starter recoil system, where the handle would not return all the way into the saw. I had to disassemble it and fix it. It took about 30 min, but it works fine now.

Initially found it a little hard starting. After a little tinkering with the carb adjustment it always starts on the 2nd or third pull. Non-ethanol gasoline is a must.

Strengths:
Cheap, lightweight. Cuts fast. I've cut about 15 cords of firewood with mine in the last year and a half with very little problem.

Weaknesses:
Engine occasionally quits while cutting at full throttle but restarts easily. Chain must be tensioned quite precisely otherwise it will throw. Cannot adjust carburetor with regular shop tools.

Summary:
IT SUCKS! I can't say it any more succinctly than that. Don't torture yourself. Take the ~$120 that this saw costs, and put it towards a more expensive, but infinitely better, Stihl or Echo chain saw. You won't regret it. BTW, I need to add that Husquavarna's engines are also made by the same "wonderful people" that make the Poulan engines. So, for me, that rules out buying anything marketed with Husquavarna's name emblazoned on it, as well.

Strengths:
Light weight. Run ... don't walk ... as fast as you can, AWAY FROM THIS SAW! Do NOT even think about buying one, not even for a second. You will regret it.

Weaknesses:
Where do I start? I know this chainsaw is rated for "occasional use only," but I had no idea that "occasional use" meant twice. Yep. That's right. This saw's piston locked up on me on my second time using it. When it ran, it cut through wood like it was butter, but I suspect that had more to do with having a properly adjusted, sharp chain as much as anything else. Poulan lists a large number of "service centers" near me, but NONE of them will do warranty work on Poulan, due to their practice of not reimbursing the service center for the warranty work performed (this practice was explained to me by multiple service centers listed by Poulan as Service Centers). Seems Poulan wants to screw over their warranty service centers as much as they screw over their customers. Don't bother trying to call Poulan's customer service number. Once you spend 20 minutes working through their stupid automated phone tree, you get to talk to a PARTS person, who literally can tell you nothing about service, aside from referring you to their web site to find a list of service providers in your area. Sometimes, if you manage to get through to the operator, you ultimately get hung up on when she transfers the call (happened twice to me). Poulan offers a 1 year warranty, which in the end, is worth nothing, since no one will perform warranty work on a Poulan. If you have already bought one and are looking to have warranty work done, chalk it up to paying a "stupid tax" for having bought one, and go out and buy a real chain saw that has a better warranty and a better network of warranty providers, like a Stihl. Sure, they cost a bit more, but then remember the old adage "you get what you pay for." With this level of customer service, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised (and quite happy, on my part) if Poulan goes out of business within the next 5 years. After having bought, owned and used several Poulan products over the past 10 or so years, this is the last straw for me. The ONLY way I'd ever buy a Poulan product again is if I went into the purchase and treated it like toilet paper ... use it once, then dispose of it. Trust me ... If I could rate this chainsaw any lower than a '1,' I would have. Unfortunately, '1' is the lowest rating I'm allowed to give this chainsaw.

Summary:
I bought this saw in 2009 to cut a few downed trees after a storm and just to have my own chainsaw. I used it a half dozen times over a 3 month period. I put the saw on a shelf and it sat there until spring of 2011. I didnt even drain the gas. I shook the saw and it started on the 4th pull. I've used it one weekend every month since then. Apparently I got one of the good ones. I'm on my second bar. I bound the saw up big time and knocked several teeth off the oil pump drive gear. 6 bucks for a new pump and I'm sure as long as I keep it cleaned I will get a few more years of service out of it.

Strengths:
Low cost. Have had less problems than my buddies with their stihls, echos, and husqvarnas.

Weaknesses:
Alot of little holes that allow dirt and sawdust to get into places that it should'nt. Gotta keep it cleaned! If your cutting oak and other hardwoods you will need to have several chains on hand. Saw seems to struggle a bit. But goes thru pine like butter.

I haven't had much success with this saw either, it seems to be a common thread here. I went to get it looked at, rough idling, stalling, impossible to start etc, and the old-timer couldn't figure it out either. Set it aside and bought a small stihl ms170, as i don't need much. Great saw by the way, love stihl. I myself am gonna try to get poulan running properly by really adjusting the idle speed and main fuel screws, see what happens. If that don't work, I am gonna dissemble it and sell for parts.

I am currently trying to fix this thing but I see I'm wasting my time from the reviews I've read. I'm going to buy a Stihl. Note that I had a Homelite for 30 years and never had any problems like this other than can be hard to start at times. Should have tried fixing it before I tossed it.

Strengths:
Cheap saw! Worked fine when I 1st got it although hard to start. That's about it! Does make great exercise equipment though!

Weaknesses:
What a piece of junk, crap, waste of money!!! When I say 180 days I hardly used it, 6 - 8 times total. Worked great a month ago then 2 weeks later recoil jammed up. I repaired this, well kind off as it still jams on occassion. Actually my Wife repaired it as I went ballistic trying to get the recoil spring back into place. Got it started 2x after this, used it once and now it doesn't start at all. Leaks chain oil. Chain needs constant adjustment, & did I say that I hardly use it! Trying to get your foot into the handle to hold this thing down while starting it is a joke if you wear any type of shoe, except perhaps sandles.

Spend a little more money and buy a better saw. The reviews on this site align with my experience.

Not a single one that I can find.

Weaknesses:
Worked for ten minutes then would not idle or run and leaks oil. Took it in for a warranty repair (took a month) and I got it back and it still won’t idle. The warranty company (Connolly’s Do it Best, Fort Wayne, IN) replaced the carb and said all is well. I get it home and it still won’t idle. I needed a saw for a small job so I purchased a cheap one so this is my fault I guess. I have other Poulan products that I am happy with but after the ordeal and the run around from Poulan’s support, I will never again buy one of their products. It is obvious from the review of this product that it is a bad product but I am envious of those of you that actually got one that worked. Unfortunately, that was not my luck.
